Waiting can be the hardest part. Here's how you will get your pathology or radiology results back.
Print your referral before you go to the lab.
After your consult, we'll send your referral to your email and patient portal as a PDF. Print it out and take it to any pathology lab in Australia — how you receive results depends on which one you visit.

Results come straight to NextClinic. We release them to your patient portal as soon as we receive them — often the same day, and usually within a few business days. Your referring doctor reviews each result. If something needs follow-up, we'll contact you by email and SMS.

There are more radiology providers in Australia than we're integrated with today. If yours isn't on the list, your results usually land in My Health Record once the clinic uploads them. If they don't show up, email us and we'll chase them for you.
What happens when your results come in
You see what we receive. Your doctor reviews it too.

Your results appear in your portal.
When results arrive at NextClinic, we release them to your patient portal. You don’t need to wait for a separate approval step before you can see them.

Your referring doctor reviews them.
The AHPRA-registered doctor who ordered the test reviews the result separately and checks whether anything needs follow-up.

If something needs follow-up, we’ll contact you.
If the doctor sees something worth discussing, we’ll send you an email and SMS asking you to book a follow-up consult. We’ll explain what to do next.

Labs work on their own timelines. If it's been longer than expected and nothing has shown up, email us. We'll contact the lab and let you know what we find.

Common questions
Clear answers while you wait.
How long do results usually take?+
Most routine pathology results are back within 1-3 business days. Some specialised tests take a bit longer. Your doctor will give you a rough idea at the time of your consult so you know what to expect.
Will a doctor actually look at my results?+
Yes. Your results are released to you straight away so you are not left in the dark, and your referring doctor reads through them separately. If they see something worth discussing, you will get an email and an SMS asking to book a quick follow-up consult.
My lab isn't on your integrated list. Where will my results go?+
To My Health Record, if the lab uploads there. If you are not sure, ask the lab directly. Still stuck? Email us at support@nextclinic.com.au and we will help you track them down.
I don't have a My Health Record. What do I do?+
You can set one up through myGov in a few minutes. It is free and useful to have anyway. If you would rather we receive your results directly next time, just choose one of the labs we are integrated with on your next visit.
Can I get my radiology results sent straight to NextClinic?+
Yes, if you visit one of our integrated radiology providers — Qscan, I-MED, Vision Radiology, or a Sonic Imaging clinic (Queensland X-Ray, Castlereagh Imaging, SKG Radiology, Canberra Imaging Group). Results land in your patient portal directly. If you visit a different clinic, your results usually go to My Health Record, and we'll help chase them if they don't show up.
What if I'm worried about a result before anyone calls me?+
That is completely fair. You are welcome to book a follow-up consult any time, even if we have not reached out. A quick chat with a doctor often clears things up faster than reading the numbers alone.
Something's missing or delayed. Who do I contact?+
